I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; You can impress me with flashy graphics and impressive tech demos, but at the end of the day I want to have fun. I’ve been spending some time with Last Knight by Toco Games and I have to say, I’ve enjoyed myself quite a bit.
Last Knight is an interesting game. It blends a few genres together but is more-or-less a runner game with various platforming elements. Your brave knight jumps onto the back of his steed and is carried onward into forests, caverns, and graveyards. While riding, you’ll have to dodge trees, fences, and other obstacles while also keeping your eyes open for rivers and canyons. You’ll have to keep your lance handy as well, as enemy knights and various forest creatures will occasionally throw themselves into your path. When an enemy knight challenges you during your adventure, there’s only one thing you need to do; Lance him in the face.
While I know a lot of people look for complexity in games with RPGs running for hundreds of hours and online shooters keeping 9 years olds occupied for days on end, there’s something to be said with sitting down with a game and just having fun. Last Knight is a game that you can just pick up and play. I respect that. I like the fact that if I am waiting for my friends who’s late because he got stuck in traffic on his way to my house, I can boot up Last Knight and just have fun with it. The environments keep it fresh, and its surprisingly challenging. Oh, and when you knock a knight off of his horse and onto his butt the slow-motion ragdoll effects are simply hilarious. If anything, I’d suggest the developer should make them even more extreme! Watching a knight bounce off a tree is just a hoot.
If you are interested in seeing the game in motion, check out the trailer. You have to see for yourself why I think the game is so funny. Oh, and I will definitely be streaming it on our Twitch channel fairly often. Its just damn fun. That is why we play games, right?
